Previously we talked about the book entitled “Deep Work” by Cal Newport. His statement about working hours included the idea of how some people put in 60 hours of work due to poor planning. It is not hard to imagine the mental and physical stress of a 60 hour plus work week would be.

Even regular work weeks can be daunting. Time blocking allows you to work on your mental and physical health and still accomplish everything.

We know that time blocking increases productivity and work success. It can also help you to stay in a more positive mood.

This means your overall relationships will improve. There will be less conflict with loved ones and co-workers.

Always struggling to get the work done and finding that each week was unsuccessful leads to stress and depression.

You feel like the proverbial hamster running on a wheel. Like the hamster, you keep moving without going anywhere and accomplishing worthwhile goals.

When you start time blocking, you become more aware of who you are and what you can do at work and in life. You see the big clear picture instead of a grainy visual.

Self-care is vital to your overall health. When you use time blocking, doing it for your entire day, allows you to glance at the schedule and feel joy as there is “time for me.” Hectic schedules without any structure make any chance for a nice massage, a nature trail bike ride, or a 30-minute warm soapy bath seem impossible.

You must not forget self-care.

Many people suffer from chronic pain and in other areas of taking care of themselves. Time blocking is not a cure for chronic pain; however, it can assist in lowering and managing it. Let's use the example of a stay-at-home worker.

In some cases, the person may choose to work from home because they suffer from chronic pain or fatigue. They can work but must manage their time and self-care effectively.

Time blocking allows them to block more extended rest periods if they understand when they become most fatigued. It also always gives them the chance to block time to do certain exercises specifically designed to ease the pain.

Rather than sitting in an office chair in obvious pain, they can structure their day and add a “20 minute Epson salt bath” or “20 minutes in the heated vibration chair.

Time blocking is effective for everyone, and the health benefits are something that should not be ignored.
